New Skool Skate Team had the chance to catch Tony Hawk and the Birdhouse Team today. Birdhouse kicked off their “MIA TO NYC 2011” tour in our own Westwind Lakes Skatepark in West Miami.
The boys were hypnotized as they watched the skateboarding legend, Tony Hawk, perform tricks up close. Anthony, Jose, Sam, Juan, and Jay-Jay got their t-shirts autographed by members of the Birdhouse Team. Juan chased Tony Hawk down for an autograph, but Tony Hawk said he couldn’t do it at the moment. (Tony was actually skateboarding at that time, LOL.) David Loy autographed one of our team’s phones. Yay. David Loy was also gracious enough to pose for random pictures with the kids. Thanks to all Birdhouse skaters!
For 7-year-old Jose Castillo, today was a dream come true. Jose was able to see his skateboarding hero, Tony Hawk, skate at our own neighborhood skatepark. “I got power now,” said Jose after he skated over the same line that Tony Hawk skated. Our skatepark will never be the same.
